Hotel Overview

The Great Barr hotel is undoubtedly one of the best 3-star hotels in Birmingham, set in beautiful grounds and just 20 minutes from the city centre. The hotel's contemporary building with 105 tastefully furnished rooms and suites fitted with satellite TV, Internet, playstation and computer rental. Many of the rooms have a wonderful view of the gardens. The Great Barr Hotel is the perfect base for the business or leisure traveller, being within easy access of the NEC, the business district, the city centre with its myriad of bars, restaurants, galleries, music venues, jewellery quarter and shopping centres as well as access to major roads winding their way to towns like Stratford-Upon-Avon. The Palm Restaurant offers excellent British and International cuisine and is very popular with locals and guests alike.

Good Points: The breakfast was excellent value for money and we were once again taken care of in the excellent hands of Vera who sorted out a high chair and checked everything was Ok and our little boy had everything we needed.
Bad Points: The reception staff were not at all friendly and welcoming.We had requested a travel cot in advance and a suitable room and on check in found we had been allocated a small room with no cotwhich we were told would be sorted out on our return.On arrival early evening with a very tired toddler we discovered that the cot had still not been arranged.Fortunately an exceptional member of staff called Vera took charge and within minutes had moved us to a larger more suitable room and erected the cot for us.

Tip: Ask for Vera as you will get no-where with requests from any of the other reception staff who couldn't even manage a welcming smile

Good Points: The hotel is perfect for me visiting family in the area. Staff are very likeable and helpful. Breakfast is very good indeed. Rates for advance booking excellent value for money.
Bad Points: This is hard i stayed 5 nights and can't find anything to moan about .....

Tip: Tribute nights are popular hear ... I had an upstairs room 210 which was well out of the way and quite.

Good Points: Excellant value for money and very clean.
Bad Points: Noise from parties was disturbing. Someone left their extractor fan on throughout the night, which was a constant background noise. Had to resort to earplugs.

Tip: As far away from the functions rooms would be a good idea.

Good Points: The cleanliness of the place and the excellent food that's served for breakfast. There is also a secure car park which I think is locked at nights.
Bad Points: The hotel has 24 hour reception however, to gain entry late at night you have to call a mobile number for the night person to open the door. Tho only problem with this is if you don't have a mobile or if the phone is not charged might cause delay in getting in.
