Hotels in Stockholm

Stockholm is built on a network of 14 islands on the far eastern coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula.

It was established in the middle of the 13th century and since has flourished into one of the most attractive cities in the world. With its abundance of open water and greenery, a Stockholm city break is a relaxing and refreshing experience.

It has to be said that Scandinavia does have a reputation for being an expensive place to visit, but that's not necessarily the case when you travel to Stockholm. Obviously, if you're able to be a little more free with your budget, there are many luxury hotels in Stockholm that will provide you with all the pampering you could wish for, but if you don't have too much cash at your disposal, a cheap hotel in Stockholm offers more for your money than most locations in Europe.

So, if you fancy the Swedish capital for a holiday destination, what is there to do? The oldest buildings date from the 13th century, but a fire in the 17th century led to many important buildings being destroyed, these were rebuilt in a Baroque style, and Stockholm's castle and cathedral are fine examples of architecture from that period.

In addition to its architecture, Stockholm is also a capital of culture. There are a number of museums, theatres and art galleries, all of which are housed in remarkable buildings. It is not an understatement to say that modern day Stockholm is something of a capital for Scandinavia and artistic works by Scandinavian artists. Whilst the nightlife in Stockholm may not be as vibrant as some other cities, the Swedish capital prides itself on its rich and varied cuisine. There a nine Michelin starred restaurants in the city, two of which have two stars, and no Stockholm holiday is complete without trying out at least one of those restaurants. Stockholm is a wonderful place to visit, it's a beautiful city, with a rich history and culture, and Stockholm's hostels are a fine mix of luxury and good value. It is an ideal location for a city break.
