Hotels in Munich

The city that is now known as modern day Munich was founded by Benedictine monks in the 12th century and rapidly grew in importance during the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The city developed as a centre of trade and commerce for much of the next seven hundred years before suffering extensive damage during World War II. Now rebuilt with much of its original street layout intact, Munich is one of the premier cities in Europe.

Part of the enduring appeal of travelling to Munich is the city's ability to be home to over a million people and yet at the same time feel decidedly quite small, in fact, one of its nicknames is the village. The small-town appeal is enhanced by the number of boutique hotels in Munich, and by the vast tracts of green space to be found within the city limits. There is more to do in Munich than could possibly be squeezed into a week or even two weeks, and it is a city that many people return to time after time.

The damage suffered during the war has seen Munich reborn as a modern cosmopolitan city, but still boasting the beautiful baroque architecture that makes it such an attractive destination. There are countless museums, tourist sites, churches, markets, in fact, just about everything that you could possibly wish for in a city, as well as a large amount of open green space.

Whilst it is quite an expensive place to visit there are a wide range of hotels in Munich to cater to all budgets. Cheap hotels in Munich are relatively easy to find, although often not in or around the city centre, Munich is quite small and has excellent public transport, so there's no problem with getting around.

The Bavarian capital is one of those cities that doesn't need sunshine to be enjoyed, so particularly during the winter there are some great deals on Munich holidays that are well worth the money. It is a beautiful, clean, energetic city, that due to the unique circumstances surrounding its development manages to be both cultured and historic as well as youthful and modern, and is well worth a visit.
