There are many locations on the Mediterranean which draw in potential tourists, but rarely do you find one so extensively rooted in the tradition of the package holiday as Benidorm.
Benidorm hotels have been part of package holiday deals before people even knew what a package holiday was, and this can only stand the discerning consumer in good stead when it comes to picking a reliable deal. Benidorm itself is a treat too. Hotels in Benidorm have benefited from almost twenty five years of experience and investment and the attractions in the area have developed at a very similar late.
The beauty of the resort’s nature as an established feature on the European holiday scene means that you are simply spoiled for choice; a decent cheap hotel in Benidorm is just as easy to find as a decent luxury Benidorm hotel. In terms of recent history, the resort has always been popular with tourists from northern Europe, especially those from the UK. Of course, its initial growth in popularity can be attributed to the package Benidorm holidays that were touted about those countries in the early 90s, but its enduring appeal tells of something a little bit more substantial. One must remember that Spain was not all laughs and giggles in the late 70s and 80s, and many have commented on how Benidorm quite fragrantly contradicted the conservative notions of National Catholicism that General Franco had espoused. In terms of detailing just what makes travelling to Benidorm so appealing, there is too much to mention straight away. The Benidorm travel guides go out of their way to make their case.
Of course there are the three major beaches: Llevante, Poniente and Mal Pas; all of them have a blue flag, the maximum quality standard recognized by the European Union. Then there is the Gran Hotel Bali, a four-star hotel built in 2002 as a 186-meter-tall building which stood as the tallest skyscraper in Spain for five years. And then, and perhaps the strongest indicator, there are the countless thousands of bars, cabaret lounges and clubs that throng the seafront. Often open well into the wee hours, they have ensured Benidorm’s status as an international tourist destination for almost three decades. And they show no sign of slowing down.
Whether it be the cheap hotels in Benidorm or whether it is the shining towers of tourism, there is something for everyone.
